It’s time for your senior pictures! You may be asking, what do I wear? What do I bring? Well, don’t worry, because we are here with a Senior Photo Shoot style guide!
Follow the tips below to get the most out of your Senior photos!
Keep your outfits visually simple
Solid colors and simple patterns look best on camera! Avoid busy patterns and large logos or words. Textured fabrics such as cotton and wool are great options, stay away from silks or satin.
Have an outfit plan
Your number of outfit changes will depend on which session you choose. Always plan out your outfits ahead of time and bring extra ones! You may change your mind once you see the backgrounds and sets in person.
Don’t be afraid to be diverse with your outfits
You may be tempted to just bring your favorite everyday outfits, but be sure to bring something a little dressier. Variety is key!
Apply your makeup normally
Powder, eyeshadow or lipstick with glitter or shine may cause a reflection from the flash so try to stick to matte finishes. Matte powder is your friend! Bring it with you even if you did your makeup, you may need to reapply to avoid shine.
Stick with hairstyles you know
Your hair needs to be styled in a way that you are comfortable with, so don’t try a new hairstyle for your shoot. If you need to get your haircut, try to go at least a week in advance to give your hair time to adjust and look normal.
Pay attention to details
Check your nails for chipped polish and go with simple colors that won’t distract from your outfits. Try to avoid going out in the sun for long periods of time right before your shoot. Nobody wants sunburns or tan lines in their senior pictures!
Hats, belts, jewelry, shoes, props… these items can be very important. They help show off your personality and make your photos all about you!

Prom season is upon us! What better time to bring back Friday Fashion Debate??
Prom fashion seems to have a longer shelf life than regular fashion. I’m not saying my prom dress from 10 years ago would work now but you can make some fashions work over a several year span. That doesn’t mean there aren’t certain styles that appear to be the top trend each year. We are going to touch on those specific ones today.
The number one trend this year in prom fashion is set to be the two piece dress. This isn’t a change from the last year really but it seems to still be forecasted as the most commonly seen prom trend. I really like this trend. I think it is young and fresh and allows you to show off a variety of styles with patterns, etc.
The second biggest trend projected for this year is wine shades. This typically refers to burgundy red or dark purples shades. These two color families are extremely flattering on most skin tones and a definite favorite in my book for dramatic formal attire.
Another trend we expect to see a lot of this year is high neck lines. It seems like the typical formal fashion a few years ago used to be extreme plunging necklines. It stepped away from that but kept a more normal v-shape neckline for a couple of years but this year we are seeing necklines that are very high. The exception is sometimes you will see a lower neckline but they are illusion styled where there may be lace, etc but there is actual fabric in the “open” space.
We also have another returning trend this year, florals. If we went back several years, florals were not big in formal wear. You would see them in beading and accents but definitely not full floral pattern skirts. I have to say, I absolutely adore this trend. Floral formals are so feminine and fun. The addition of florals in the formal world opened up the option to have so much color and drama in your prom look. This is a definite yes in my book and I hope this trend sticks around!
This is not to say that there aren’t a ton of other styles out there that are great prom looks. These are just a few of the trending looks for 2017. We would love for you to share some of your favorite prom styles with us or send a pic of your dress for this year!
To all of our 2017 Seniors who are nearing the end of their High School careers, we hope you have a wonderful time at prom and enjoy the rest of your Senior year!
Our Senior Spotlight this week is Jordan from West Orange High School. Jordan participates in Bowling and Woodshop at school and volunteers at the Mosaic Church youth group in her spare time.
Jordan’s aspirations after graduating High School are very unique. She would like to attend Lake Sumter State College in Clermont where she plans to study Business Management. The unique twist to Jordan’s career plans is the fact that she would like to use her Business Management Degree to own her own aerial arts studio. She would like to become a professional aerialist. She also told us she hopes to be in professional shows such as Cirque Du Soleil or Le Reve in Las Vegas.
When we asked Jordan who the most influential person in her life was, she told us “I really look up to my aerial teacher Ms.Jen. She loves working with people and is nice to everyone”.
Good luck with everything Jordan! Make sure to let us know when you make it big with your aerial arts dreams and remember to enjoy the rest of your Senior year!
I may have lost half of you before you even got past the title, so I will explain. This is not a post about corrective eyeglasses or your cute grandpa with reading glasses that sit on the edge of his nose. We are talking about Snapchat Spectacles because I am obsessed! The Spectacles are sunglasses that record video from the perspective of the wearer.
After launching our Snapchat account in March 2016, our followers grew rapidly! We had no idea if the start of that account would work well or if students would even care to follow what we were posting there but the feedback was wonderful!
Now that we know Snapchat is beneficial for us, I am determined to get a pair of Snapchat Spectacles.
Are you thinking “just go out and buy some then”? Well that’s the problem. Spectacles are being sold via vending machines that get dropped off at random locations across the country. There is a countdown page and once the new location is announced you better get there quickly because the lines get outrageous and they do eventually sell out!
Ok so how does this relate to Fashion? Well some people love the style of these but others say they are hideous.
They come in three different colors but only one style/shape. Personally, this particular shape wouldn’t be my first choice if I were buying everyday normal sunglasses. However, they could be much worse. I think consideration that they need to be slightly fashionable was put into the design of these but others disagree completely.
What do you think? Are the acceptable as a trendy fashion accessory or simply only for technology trends?
We all know New Years Eve is one of the best days of the year for fashion. Who doesn’t love to get ultra dressed up in your best glam attire and celebrate the New Year with friends and family? I know I do!
First and foremost, the number one most important part of your New Years outfit is SPARKLE! Sequins, shine and shimmer are all welcome textures in the perfect New Years look.
This is limited to the clothing either. Sparkle can be in your makeup, your nails, your accessories, or if you are feeling really fun then do it all!
Secondly, you usually go with something a bit more sleek and slim fitting for New Years. For our Christmas party looks, we talked about full skirts and a-line dresses but with this look you want to show off a bit more. This does
not mean you have to wear something super short or revealing. I love the idea of a sequin pant or a sparkly legging with a nice shirt and tailored blazer. Nothing about this looks says inappropriate but the lines are very sleek and clean.
Really though, if I am being honest, this is the one day of the year that limits sort of go out the window. Whatever your style is, start the New Year being the best you! The whole point of a New Year’s party is to remember the year we had and celebrate the one we are about to start and a celebration is about happiness and joy!
Cheers to 2017!
