You may have read the title and thought to yourself, she is going to hate on this trend! If so, you are wrong!
I am not talking about costumes that you wear to conventions, but I think that is loads of fun too! Today we are debating regular daily attire that has a comic book theme. Actually I was inspired by a senior that was photographed on Wednesday. I often tell our seniors that we want their pictures to represent them, and that is the same thing I told this particular senior’s parent. Along with other personalized items, he brought some clothing that represented Captain America. I have to say, I LOVE these pictures! They are not ready to be shared with all of you just yet but trust me, they are amazing!
Back on track with our debate, the point I want to make it that comic book attire is trendy and can be done in a really hip way. Below are examples of ways to rock this trend the right way!
I am not saying go out and get head to toe comic book prints or show up to work with an actual costume on but tasteful comic book clothing is a definite thumbs up in my book!
Here are a few ideas of what NOT to do when adding comic book clothing to your wardrobe. With this trend I think it is important to remember, less is more!
I will start this week off by saying right away that this is one of my favorite trends right now! If you read the title and were wondering what exactly I meant, let me show you a few examples.
Cutouts come in several different styles and I truly love them all. You have simple sweet cutouts like the image on the left, back cutouts like the one in the middle, or maybe something a little more dramatic that gives a detailed design and shows a little more skin. This isn’t even the beginning of all the options but a few of my favorites.
To me, this type of top is a way to show a little more skin in an incredibly tasteful way. I mean let’s face it, it’s hot out there! Here in St Augustine, FL we are supposed to reach 100 degrees with a heat index of 115. I may feel the urge to leave the house in a bathing suit but I have to go places and do things and that just won’t work, plus in reality, I am too modest to do that even if it was acceptable. 🙂 My next favorite option is to put on a tank top or light shirt that breathes well and these tops are perfect for that, covered without completely showing skin.
Another thing I love about cutouts is you can throw a fun colored tank underneath and it adds a whole other element to your look. I am actually doing that today! The top I am wearing is a black tank with cutouts in the back and I put a bright spaghetti strap top under for a fun pop of color. Here is another example for a more visual idea. 🙂
Summer trends can be so much fun with all of the bright colors and vibrant patterns but I definitely suggest adding a few cutout tops to your summer attire!
I wanted to take a minute today to express my deepest sorrows to all affected by the tragedy that happened in Orlando yesterday. Being a company based in St Augustine, FL, this is not only a terrible event for our country and our state but it hits very close to home in our community.
Our hearts are with Orlando during this terrible time.
With the biggest trends in fashion leaning toward festival attire and bohemian pieces, clean preppy looks have been getting a lot less attention. That doesn’t mean this look is out of style by any means though! In fact, I consider it a classic look. I went looking for the most “trending” preppy styles and was pleasantly surprised to find some cute twists on this rarely changing look.
A preppy look is usually made up of very clean lines and solid colors, maybe a stripe every now and again. The way to keep this classic look but add a clean new pop is with your accessories. In my research, I saw tons of solid tops and tailored jeans or white cropped pants but the crazy colors and patterns are all in the bags, shoes and sunglasses.
Another great way to add your own tastes to a preppy look is with your hair style! Maybe for you this means fun color or a daring cut. It could also mean a fashion forward hat or head wrap.
Last but not least, and possibly one of my favorite ways to take a more timid preppy look up a notch, a bright bold lip color! White shorts with a denim button up shirt look amazing with a bright pink or coral lip. Add in a fun bag and a unique pair of shades and you are set!
Is this look completely off of your trending list? If so I want to know why!
Happy Friday fashionistas! 🙂
